Supporting Girls* as Youth Caregivers
Join Dr. Feylyn Lewis to learn about girl-identified youth caregivers, the issues that affect them, and how you can play a part in supporting them.
There are an estimated 5.4 million youth caregivers in the US. Youth caregivers are children and teenagers who provide unpaid care, support, and assistance to disabled, ill, or injured family members, friends and romantic partners. Girls and girl-identifying youth are often seen as the face of youth caregiving. Despite a substantial presence in society, girl* youth caregivers remain hidden and overlooked in policy, practice, and research.
This course will provide foundational working knowledge of the issues affecting girl youth caregivers. Learners will be encouraged to perform critical analysis about the role of structural inequity and stigma in preventing radical safety for youth caregivers and receive tools to advocate for youth caregivers in your specific professional sector.
